Hit in a Car Accident by an Uninsured Driver?

Hit By an Uninsured Driver?

hit by an uninsured driver?

Accidents are already frustrating enough, but being hit by someone who doesn’t have insurance can send you through the roof!

Before you lose your cool, there might be help. Dr. Barry Marks, DC a leading car accident expert in Orange, CA explains…

Despite the other driver being uninsured, you may still have a claim that can pay for:

  • Medical treatment
  • Time lost from work
  • Compensation for pain & suffering

In fact, the Answer May be in Your Own Auto Insurance Policy

Look to see if you have “Uninsured Motorist or UM” coverage. This is a policy feature that will cover your costs in the event you are hit by someone who did not have insurance. So, your own insurance will take the place of the other person’s insurance and compensate you.

File an Uninsured Motorist Claim in 3 Steps:

  1. To file a claim, you must have some sort of proof the other party is uninsured. Sometimes the person that hit you will give you a fake or expired policy at the scene. When you contact their insurance company, they will tell you there is no coverage. Ask them to give that to you in writing or email.
  2. Then call your auto insurance company and tell them you want to use your UM coverage. You will need to submit the letter from the other persons insurance stating no coverage. This will get the claim open.
  3. Once you are done with treatment. You need to write a demand letter detailing the accident, your medical expenses, injuries you sustained, any lost wages and a sum for pain and suffering. This will begin a negotiation with your insurance company to compensate you.
